Karwendel Mountain Bike Runde - von Mittenwald

Only a day ride, but not an easy one and maybe the hardest one we have done in Germany.

After Kathy had her great Zugspitzrun (while I was still in Santa Monica) in June,  we went back to Mittenwald later for another visit. Obin and I brought two mountain bikes and we did the Karwendelrunde - a loop around the Karwendel mountains.

We started from Mittenwald, just at the foot of the mountains:

We went along the Isar to Scharnitz and then into the Karwendeltal. Immediately great scenery:

The climbing didn't start in earnest until a bit before the Karwendelhaus, but it was not an easy climb to get there

Obin's first Germknoedel:

Bumpy descent - especially with 1980s rigid forks:
Near the Rissbach, we took some single track side detours rather than staying on the main route.

Eventually one chilly crossing, this is still icewater in July:

And some deserved Radler after the last climb - now it'll be all downhill to Mittenwald again. I think about 7 hours total.

Back in Mittenwald, we had some ice cream, bought some Broetchen for dinner, Obin played fiddle, and then there was a huge downpour and we drove back to Waldenbuch.
